We had a student approach us to undertake skateboarding as part of their their Edinburgh Award scheme at the Bronze level. In his role as Head Coach, Coach Stu agreed to assess the students progress.
Aim of the physical part of the award
The aim is as follows:
To inspire young people to achieve greater physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle through participation and improvement in physical activity.
Skateboarding is an excellent medium to promote physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle.
Assessing skateboarding for the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme
It was quite easy for us to report on progress, as the student used our online learning system to track progress through the skills:
The student attended 15 classes at Rye Park and Copeland Park in total, with:
- 3 beginner classes and
- 12 progressing classes.
When the student passed their grading by submitting their:
- practical assigment – recording and submitting. a clip rolling in to a flat bank
- theory assignment – answering some questions
they were able to print off their certificate (pictured) which they submitted as evidence.
